Texoma
Classic - No wind, too much wind!
This event started as the first try for "Reverse Starts".
From the beginning, the idea proved successful and sailors
with smaller boats enjoyed the opportunity to sail at the front of
the fleet. The fastest boats were catching up in a nice 6 to 8 knots
and everything looked fine until a Texas thunderstorm put crews to
the ultimate challenge. As fast as the storm came through it disappeared,
leaving some boats with a chance to extend their lead and others with
some repairs to be made.
Race was tight in Spinnaker Racing A where three boats, Don Enrique,
Second Star and Coyote, had a chance with only yards to go.
In all, the race was a great experience and a great success for
the "Reverse Starts" format.
Winners:
Spinnaker Racing A: Second Star / J-122 / JD Hill
Cruising Class: Trust / J-30 / Bill & Mary Nichols
